I read in the papers that Waitrose will be opening a new branch on Clapham High Street and will be taking over the current Woolworths site for that purpose. Great but where do we now get our stationary and other useful home things from?

Sadly it's the Woolies in Battersea not Clapham

See article below

"40-44 St John’s Road, Clapham Junction, London, SW11 1PP – 11,000 sq ft"

Im not sure that it is a bad or good thing either way for SW4. There isnt a Waitrose in the whole of Lambeth anyway as we are way too poor for them and that by implication extends to Clapham. Also not sure how the good people of Clapham Junction and the I love Battersea Campaign would react towards the spanner in the wheel thrown in by Waitrose given that so much energy has been spent over the last year to rebrand the area into Battersea and then the uber posh of stores gets its branding wrong!

No worries Clapham is still a lovely place waitrose or no waitrose. Besides Woolies in clapham are way too profitable to want to sell off to the big W. Note that there isnt a Waitrose in Notting Hill either.

It would be a real shame for Woolies to close as it does provide all those bits and pieces. However, Waitrose would be a breath of fresh air, and they do some great 'reduced' price bread late in the day and a decent wine list. I'd much rather shop where the staff are joint owners of a business as well and get treated (the ones I've spoken to) a lot better than when they've worked for other supermarkets.

Perhaps petition Waitrose to open a branch in Clapham proper. They have one in Balham not too far from the proposed  new one in Battersea so no reason why another branch up the hill can't be opened.

Just like to note its not Clapham High Sreet as mentioned, I have allways known it has Clapham Junction. Its a shame woolies going but times move on and I think Waitrose will be popular with all the yuppies that have taken over Battersea/Wandsworth now

wine bars, restaurants, yuppies, penthouses and now waitrose, whats happened to the old borough of Wandsworth-used to be rough, council estates, rough pubs, rough schools like Spencer Park, hard but friendly people.

Re new Waitrose - Yes its not in Clapham but Clapham Junction or rather Battersea as Wandsworth is keen to differentiate the area from Clapham. About the old Wandsworth - well the aspirational Council long realised that the only way to deal with the areas roughness was to sex it up in a bg way to attract the yuppies en mass and that is what has happened. Wandsworth now has the largest concentration of million pound homes after Westminster and the Royal Borough with oodles of new and old money swashing around even in battersea wihth its blue collar terraces and waterfront apartments. Not sure what happened to the locals. Were they shipped out?

As for Clapham I'm not sure that Waitrose are enamoured by Lambeth Council as there isn't a single branch in the Borough. Despite being amongst the top end London areas Clapham SW4 suffers by reason of association with Lambeth

I am still wondering if we might get either a Waitrose or an M&S in the new "Ipsus" development in Old Town. It seems like there might be one big shop to anchor the commercial part, and as far as I know no details have been announced yet of what shops are coming there.

Another Tesco Metro possibly. Cla'am seems to be fertile ground for breeding Tescos
