New Turkish / Kurdish Restaurant on North Street - next door to Virgin Active in the Old Town.

Fantastic!  Great interior, good selection of hot & cold mezze and main courses.  Oh and some SERIOUS desserts!  On Sundays they do a fantastic roast, too.  Wonderful service.  What's not to like?

Definitely work checking out.

Well, it is rather unusual to have a succesful restaurant there, through in all its incarnations over the last 20 years that I've known it (mostly closed mind you) its never really taken off  (I think the Scottish restaurant really took the biscuit though).  A very pleasnt chnage to the previous Italian as well.  Good luck I say!

I hope they do OK - it never seems very busy when I go past. I think it is just slightly outside the normal area where people expect to find restaurants.

Well I had lunch there today and it was very nice. Food good & charming service. I had the "Light Lunch" set menu, which is three small dishes and a dessert for £6.95 - very good value. Would definitely go again.

The restaurant has been closed for the past week, with a sign in the window saying "Closed until further notice for technical reasons". I hope this does not mean closed for financial reasons, though I fear it might - they still seemed to be struggling to get enough business.

That's a real shame.  To be honest I have only been once - I always forget about it.  Would do much better on the High St.

Yes, big shame. Great restaurant and really friendly - I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I can find out any more.

When I went past recently there was a notice in the door saying the restaurant would be re-opening in September. Whether that is under the same or new managegment I don't know. The inside has not been touched yet.
